The Community Learning Project (CLP), implemented within the Erasmus+ program by AMPEU Croatia, ran from April 2023 to April 2025. Partners from Croatia- OŠ Dobri,Portugal - Produções Fixe, Finland -Marttinen and Belgium-VZW Elagast. The project lasted 24 months, with the aim of innovating two new tools: a board game and an interactive manual.
A "Multiplier Event" was held to promote the project's goals at the premises of GDCK Solin (on March 10, 2025), with around 30 attendees.
The tools developed as part of the project have been integrated into the curricula of elementary schools in the city of Solin, the IV. High School Marko Marulić, and the Elementary School Mirkovci Vinkovci, and have become key in youth exchanges within the framework of Erasmus+ accreditations.
Social Game "Intervention in Space"
But not in the traditional format of a board game. "Intervention in Space" is a methodology in the form of a social game. This is precisely to increase and maintain interest by incorporating various predefined steps into the story. We chose not to go with a strategic game, competitive elements, luck factors, etc., because it would turn the methodology into a "game" with less reliable outcomes. Instead, we transformed the methodology into a playful format using game elements like cards, dice, and landscape building from various objects. This exercise can be repeated with the same players, leading to different outcomes depending on the community's need for change. Although the steps follow the same order, different elements in each step are perceived differently, so the exercise is experienced as a different "space adventure" each time.
Use of Space
Apart from the symbolic thematic choice of Space, this social game can be played in any physical space. Elements from the space around the players can be further incorporated as elements of the social game, or the space itself can be used as a larger representation of the provided game board. The theme of 'Space' was chosen because it belongs to everyone, regardless of where we live (e.g., city, village, street, etc.). Additionally, space still represents an unexplored area, which is symbolic and aligns with the purpose of this methodology. Each time this exercise is conducted, a unique composition of space is created, similar to the unique composition of stakeholders and construction.
Interactive Manual "Space as a Tool for Learning"
The manual "Space as a Tool for Learning" was created based on scientific principles that showcase different ways of using space for 'learning' purposes. The idea is that our use of space inspires new ideas and the active application of offered approaches. The manual has chapters, each of which presents and approaches space, its components, or encourages us to look at the elements around us in a completely different dimension. Each of these chapters is structured according to the same principle (explanation, action in the inner space / action in the outer space).
